Esteban was informative, energetic and genuinely fun. He made time for every question and made sure everyone was included in the activities. We learned a lot, and the coffee and chocolate samples would have been worth the trip on their own.

An easy walk, with umbrellas provided. There was plenty on sustainable and multi-generational farming, and more birds and plants than I expected — a sloth as well. Alberto was excellent.

It ran long, but it stayed interesting the whole way through. Tasting and handling the cacao fruit, and the freshest roasted coffee I have ever had. A good way to spend an afternoon after the drive up.

A very enjoyable tour with a knowledgeable guide. This is not a large plantation of coffee or cacao but a smaller representation of one, still a decent size. I came away understanding the bean and the process far better than I went in.

We learned how craft chocolate and specialty coffee are grown and processed, right down to how the different types are handled. Valerie was knowledgeable, friendly and funny. I walked in disliking coffee and left buying two bags to take home.

Alberto was personable and knowledgeable and we learned a great deal without it ever feeling like a lecture. The tastings were the best part of it. Fair warning: you will not look at a cup of coffee or a chocolate bar the same way again.

Jhonny was warm and knowledgeable, and the itinerary was well planned and packed with information. The farm is beautiful and has a restaurant on it. Take the morning tour and stay for lunch afterwards.

Full of local agriculture information beyond the coffee itself, and very hands-on. One thing to know: booking the English tour got us a Spanish tour with an interpreter translating after each section. It was still good quality, but it is worth knowing before you book.

I did not expect much and it turned out to be the best thing we did in La Fortuna. It is an individual tour, so it is very personal, and you can tell how much the family care about the farm. It was also the only place we managed to see a sloth.

A really good tour of the plantation, learning about the fruit and the cacao. We tasted pineapple, mango, sugar cane, raw cacao and chocolate. The guide's own grandfather started the farm. Wear something light, because it gets hot and humid among the trees.

Not much holds my teenagers' attention and this did. Porfirio had them cutting open and tasting the fruit, then grinding the pods. Making their own bonbons to take home was the best part of the day.

There were seven of us. The guide explained the different cacao plants and the process, then we tasted the raw flavour and the melted chocolate with different spices. We made our own pralines and finished on a chocolate drink.

I thought this would be a tourist trap and it was nothing of the kind. Thirty-five acres of woods, and we saw about seven sloths. The coffee was very good and the cacao and sugar cane were genuinely interesting for the children.

We wanted to see sloths and we saw at least twelve, including a couple with babies. Augustin picked them out in the trees with a spotting scope and made sure everyone got a good look and a photograph.

A storm came in and the sloth walk was cut short, with the guide telling us it was not safe to stay out. We were refunded in full. Worth asking about the weather policy if you are booking in the green season.

The sloths are very high up, and it was the guide's tripod-mounted magnifier that made them easy to see. We were lucky to get a yearling low down that put on a show for us.

Informative without ever being overwhelming, and the best part was tasting what we had just been learning about. The sloths were hard to spot with the naked eye until the guide's scope came out. Plenty of rain, and still a good morning.

You see the whole process of all three crops and you get to do it yourself. There are a lot of sloths in the park and plenty of chances to see them. It ran longer than expected and our van had gone, but another was arranged straight away.
